AFTER TAKING ON THE ANCIENT ROADS OF THE HIMALAYAS HISTORY(R) AGAIN SETS SIGHTS ON THE MOST DANGEROUS ROADS IN THE WORLD

A NEW SEASON OF IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS BOLIVIA AND PERU SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 10/9c

New York, NY, – They thought they had encountered the most dangerous roads of all last year when they got behind the wheel on the harrowing, ancient highways of the Himalayas in IRT DEADLIEST ROADS. However coming on Sunday September 25th, 10/9c, HISTORY the intrepid drivers will take on the foreboding routes of Bolivia and Peru, roads that are among the most infamous, toughest and most terrifying in the world.

The challenges and perils are never ending this season of IRT DEADLIEST ROADS. Seasoned drivers Rick Yemm, Lisa Kelly and Hugh Rowland are back as well as drivers new to HISTORY and new to these treacherous routes. IRT DEADLIEST ROADS will test everything they have learned – from the Arctic Circle to the Himalayas and beyond – and in more than 40 combined years of driving, forcing them to adapt to white-knuckle driving conditions unlike anything they have ever faced.

The roadways of Bolivia and Peru are among the most historic on the planet – the region has been inhabited for approximately 21,000 years and its roads are as vast and beautiful as they are ancient. The majestic Andean setting, however, cannot hide the incredible danger of these hard-traveled roads.

Given the dangers, this season the North American drivers must team up – two in a cab – a situation that makes for both tight friendships and explosive interactions.

BOLIVIA: In Bolivia, drivers are faced with the “Death Road,” which begins at an altitude of 15,000 feet, and, through dense fog, snakes along cliffs and sheer drops thousands of feet – with no guardrails. On the ride from Caranavi to Rurrenabaque, through the Amazon Rainforest, rains turn trails into thick truck-killing mud pits. Farther south, in the Uyuni Salt Flats – at over 4,000 square miles, by far the largest salt flat on Earth – the truckers must traverse an endless, inhospitable landscape, almost completely void of landmarks. Finally, near Bolivia’s western border, the mountain observatory at Chacaltaya towers over the outskirts of La Paz at 18,000 feet. At these altitudes, emergency oxygen tanks are standard.

PERU: On the landslide-ravaged highlands of Peru, every mountain pass is a death road, and the path to each remote destination is a test of will. First, the drivers must survive a two-day haul through a rocky and mountainous desert to the ancient town of Caral, the oldest civilization in the Western Hemisphere. Next, the dizzying altitudes and razor-sharp switchbacks of the Punto Olimpico could break even the hardest mountain driver, but it’s the runs through Canon Del Pato – on a treacherously thin ribbon of road, with tunnels, landslides, and a legendary turn called Dead Nun’s Corner – that will be the true test of every trucker’s guts, tenacity, and skill.

THE DRIVERS:

· HUGH ROWLAND- Season after season Hugh “The Polar Bear” Rowland has dominated the Ice Roads of Canada and Alaska. Out of his element now, half a world away, Hugh’s going to have to rely on every second of veteran experience, and probably learn some new tricks, to get through his time in South America.

· RICK YEMM – Rick’s back for another season of Deadliest Roads after challenging the Himalayas last year. A former employee of Hugh’s, Rick’s going to have to put his pranks aside and concentrate on the road ahead if he’s going to make it through this season.

· LISA KELLY- Lisa, the “Queen of the Ice Roads,” pulled out all the stops when it mattered most last season on India’s deadliest roads, but all that doesn’t matter on this continent, where the deadly roads of South America have their own say. Will she be able to stay strong while the Andes push her fear to new heights? Or will she be forced to give up the drivers’ seat?

· DAVE REDMON- Dave conquered the Himalayan roads last season. Now, the long-haul veteran’s back to prove he’s got what it takes to drive the most dangerous roads on the planet.

· TIM ZICKUR- Hailing from the Port of Los Angeles, Tim’s ready to show the South American continent what he’s made of – a tall order considering that he’s never even driven trucks on a freeway before, let alone anything close to the Bolivian Death Roads.

· AGUSTIN “TINO” RODRIGUEZ – When it comes to street smarts, Tino knows his way around as good as anyone. Hailing from Compton, CA, Tino may be one of the more under-experienced drivers here, but he’s got one big thing going in his favor: he’s fluent in Spanish. And out here in the South American jungles, a little communication goes a long way.

· G.W. Boles – G.W. Boles is bringing his tough Texan attitude south to the Andes and Amazon, but don’t let his rough exterior fool you. G.W.’s soft-spoken confidence is exactly what he needs to prove he’s got what it takes on these deadly roads. And don’t think his late-start is going to get in the way of getting his job done – G.W.’s going to hit the ground driving at full speed.

IRT DEADLIEST ROADS(TM) is produced for HISTORY by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company. Executive Producers for Original Productions are Thom Beers and Philip D. Segal. Jeff Conroy and James Patrick Costello II are Co-Executive Producers. Executive Producer for HISTORY is Julian P. Hobbs.

HISTORY ANNOUNCES NEW SEASON OF “ICE ROAD TRUCKERS”

Premieres Sunday, June 5, 9pm ET/PT

THIS SUMMER THE ‘DASH FOR CASH’ GETS PERSONAL AS THE U.S. TRUCKERS AND THE LEGENDARY CANADIAN DRIVERS DUKE IT OUT ACROSS TWO COUNTRIES

ITS TWICE THE ICE DOUBLE THE DANGER

New York, NY – ICE ROAD TRUCKERS returns Sunday June 5, 9pm ET/PT but this summer, the Dash for the Cash gets personal, as a split between HISTORY’S bravest drivers becomes a grudge match on ice across two countries.

Outsiders in Alaska last year, IRT vets Hugh Rowland, Alex Deborgorski and Rick Yemm set out on their own, determined to prove there’s more cash and more danger on Manitoba’s treacherous Winter Roads in Canada. The Manitoba Winter Roads are 1,400 miles of twisting ice roads through some of the most remote and unforgiving terrain on the planet. The roads are marked by axle-crushing frost heaves, heart stopping ice crossings and frozen swampland.

But the drivers on Alaska’s deadly Dalton won’t go down without a fight. Joining the “Leading Lady of the Dalton”, Lisa Kelly, is Carlile ace and single dad, Tony Molesky and IRT Deadliest Roads veteran Dave Redmon. Plus, there’s a new female trucker in town, an ambitious rookie from New York City, Maya Sieber. With pride and cash on the line, each side is driven to prove they’re best, and there’s no telling which truckers will take the season.

ICE ROAD TRUCKERS is a classic story of adventure, perseverance, human ingenuity and most importantly, danger. Hundreds of talented truckers have lost their lives trying to navigate this virtual obstacle course. One miscalculation of the road, bad weather or an unseen road hazard can be the difference between life and death. Even the most seasoned drivers will find themselves challenged by the conditions, isolation and lack of creature comforts.

Only the most experienced truckers would dare to drive this route where big rigs slide off 100 foot cliffs, come head-on with other trucks around hairpin curves, and where whiteouts, avalanches and -70 degree temperatures are just a few of the fearsome challenges encountered on a daily basis. Could this be the end of the road for some of the drivers?

Debuting in June 2007, ICE ROAD TRUCKERS quickly became a critical and ratings success for HISTORY with a passionate fan base. Although technology has changed how people deal with the conditions of the Arctic Circle, the people of the region cling to their deep roots and traditions of which ice road trucking has been an integral part for many generations.

ICE ROAD TRUCKERS is produced for HISTORY by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company. Executive Producers for Original Productions are Thom Beers and Philip D. Segal. Jeff Conroy and Gayle Gilman are Co-Executive Producers. Executive Producer for History is Matt Ginsburg.

AFTER TAKING ON THE FROZEN ROADS OF THE ARCTIC CIRCLE, HISTORY(TM) SETS ITS SIGHTS ON THE MOST DANGEROUS ROADS IN THE WORLD A Thrilling New Chapter of the ICE ROAD TRUCKERS

Television Phenomenon Begins

IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS Premieres This Fall 2010 on HISTORY(TM)

Los Angeles, CA – The intrepid drivers of ICE ROAD TRUCKERS thought they had seen it all while navigating the frozen Alaskan roadways north of the Arctic Circle. But wait until they get behind the wheel on the harrowing, ancient highways of the Himalayas! IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS, a new series premiering in fall 2010 on HISTORY(TM), takes some of the toughest truckers from one of History’s most popular programs and challenges them to haul their way through a new kind of hell on earth. The challenges and perils are never ending on IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS. Someone dies on the roads there every 4.5 minutes. If seasoned drivers Rick Yemm, Lisa Kelly and Alex Debogorski aren’t careful and lucky, they too might wind up as casualty statistics. IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS will test everything the ice truckers have learned in more than 40 combined years of driving, forcing them to adapt to white-knuckle road and driving conditions unlike anything they have ever faced. From the crowded streets of Delhi to treacherously steep, narrow and congested roads blasted into the mountainside, they’re about to embark on an exhilarating, exhausting and terrifying adventure. India’s Himalayan roadways are among the most historic on the planet.

Dating back to 206 B.C., the Himalayas were an integral part of the famous Silk Routes, connecting Central Asia with South Asia, and creating a bridge between culturally and religiously diverse countries such as India, China, Afghanistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. Infrastructure that was once narrow yak trails were turned into roads in the 1800s and today’s truckers now follow along these same ancient routes.

However, beneath this rich culture and tradition exists some of India’s most treacherous roadways. One stretch of tight, winding road is the notorious “Freefall Freeway,” which clings to a cliff 700 feet high – a wall of granite on one side, a perilous drop to certain death on the other. Elsewhere, drivers must master “The Cutouts,” where only enough rock has been blasted out of the mountains to allow one vehicle at a time to pass. Not only must drivers here cope with a 1,000-foot cliff, but they also must be wary of scraping the top of their vehicles on the rock ceiling. If that weren’t enough, “Breakaway Bend,” so named because too much blasting has weakened the mountain from below, leads not only to potholes but also to total roadway failure. Quite literally, the road could give way under their wheels at any moment.

This is a country where traffic jams last all day and road closures drag on for weeks – bad news indeed for a trucker with a load and a deadline to meet. The ever-present danger of avalanches, communication breakdowns with people who speak a different language, wild weather conditions that range from 115 degrees to below freezing and the harder-than-it-sounds task of driving on the other side of the road are additional challenges that will fray nerves and put lives on the line. IRT: DEADLIEST ROADS is produced for HISTORY by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company. Executive Producers for Original Productions are Thom Beers and Philip D. Segal. Jeff Conroy and James Patrick Costello II are Co-Executive Producers. Executive Producers for History are David McKillop and Julian P. Hobbs. About History:

New York, NY – May 12, 2010 – HISTORY(TM)’s bravest drivers head back to Alaska, 250 miles north of the Arctic Circle, for season four of the highly popular series, ICE ROAD TRUCKERS. The group of elite drivers, including legendary Hugh Rowland, Alex Debogorski, the lady of the Ice Road, Lisa Kelly, and two new drivers, will face their most difficult season on the ice. Chronicling both the incredible challenges as well as the history of this fascinating region, season four of ICE ROAD TRUCKERS will premiere Sunday, June 6 at 9pm ET/PT.

The truckers will return to face the treacherous challenges, both new and familiar. This season, the hauls are the biggest they’ve ever had to undertake; so enormous that they must drive dual trucks in order to get these important loads to their destinations! Drivers will also tackle the infamous Ice River, where fast-flowing water beneath the ice constantly weakens the road.

Hugh and Alex are back again, along with Jack Jesse and Lisa Kelly, the first full-time female driver to appear on ICE ROAD TRUCKERS. Rather than competing against each other, Alex and Hugh decide to team up as fellow Canadians to beat the American drivers! How will things roll out? Who will win? Will Hugh and Alex remain unified or will they break ranks to beat each other?

As for Lisa, this year she is determined to do a few things to be taken seriously! To become an elite trucker, she must gain independence and haul the heavy loads. She must also learn how to repair her truck so she does not have to rely on others. No more Damsel in Distress for Lisa Kelly.

Also this season, we’ll meet two new drivers who are eager to take on the challenges of the Ice Road. Ray, who was once an owner of his own Montana-based trucking company, went bust during this recession. He came up to Northern Alaska with his family to start all over again, literally from the bottom. Will he be able to hold his own on the toughest roads in America? Fellow newbie, Greg, is the youngest and cockiest of the bunch. Will his overconfidence translate to success?

With less than three months to shuttle critical supplies to the oil camps of Alaska’s North Slope, the in-demand drivers are pushed to the limits.

Segal and Jeff Conroy is Co-Executive Producer. Executive Producer for History is Charles Nordlander.
