* Linsay from Edmonton was edged out of the top spot to become runner up

Toronto, Ontario – There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at last night’s final judging on CTV’s CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. After weeks of challenges, trips, and photos shoots, Meaghan, 19 from Winnipeg, outlasted 11 eliminations to become the last model standing and win the title of CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.

Host Jay Manuel and the judges, FASHIONTELEVISION’s Jeanne Beker, supermodel Yasmin Warsame, Montreal native and A-List photographer Mike Ruiz, and photo shoot Creative Director Nolé Marin, all agreed she had what it takes to win the competition and become Canada’s next model sensation. “Every emotion is pouring through my veins right now,” Meaghan said immediately after being named Canada’s Next Top Model. “I want to travel. I want to do as many photo shoots around the world as possible. I want to make it all happen. It is official – Meaghan Waller is a model.”

Following her spectacular journey on the show, Meaghan is immediately being thrust into the forefront of the fashion world. Now represented by world-renowned modelling agency Elmer Olsen Models, this week is chock-full for Meaghan with a FASHION Magazine editorial spread, Elmer’s Boot Camp to Big Time, where she’ll meet with international agencies, and a promotional shoot for Capezio Shoes. And of course, Meaghan will be the face of Cover Girl campaigns across the country as she is the proud new owner of a $100,000 beauty contract from P&G Beauty: makers of Cover Girl, Olay, Crest Whitestrips and Perfect 10 by Nice ‘n Easy.

Although immensely talented in her own right, Linsay from Edmonton was edged out of the #1 spot. While the judges said she’s stunning and takes great photos, they didn’t think that she had enough international appeal. The judges maintained that Meaghan’s look is current, she had fantastic photos throughout the competition, and had a spectacular presence at the final fashion show.

Here’s a quick recap of how three became one: The top three girls had a try at a FASHION Magazine cover try where they all produced gorgeous photos. But when it came time for three to become two, the judges grew tired of Nikita’s self-deprecating attitude and sent her back to Calgary. The final two, Meaghan and Linsay, stomped it out in a fierce fashion show for designers The Blonds in their final challenge. The judges agonized over their final choice, but in the end, meek Meaghan rose above and took the title of CTV’s Canada Next Top Model.

The girls were surprised when Jay and Miss J came into the loft, preparing them for runway. One at a time the girls walked, some impressing Miss J. Linsay was told that she did really well, and that Miss J thought she was lying about being from a small town with no modeling experience. Miss J critiqued Maryam for walking with her head down, and Nikita for walking with her bottom out too far.

The girls arrived at Toronto’s Ultra Lounge where they found Miss J twirling around in a dress made out of Cashmere Bathroom Tissue. They discovered they would be wrapped in bathroom tissue for their challenge, and would have to walk an obstacle course runway without destroying their dress. As the girls walk, their dresses of bathroom tissues unraveled. Nikita managed to hold hers together the best, but the girls learned that this wasn’t the real challenge; the real challenge was to model couture dresses made of Cashmere Bathroom Tissue. Hand-crafted by Canadian designers, the dresses were designed for the White Cashmere Collection to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Miss J told the girls that the challenge was to sell the dresses without them tearing apart. The wardrobe stylist reiterated again and again how important it was for the girls to be careful with the dresses, and respect that they were pieces that belonged to a museum. As two stylists were helping Linsay put on her dress, Maryam reached over to help, but accidentally ripped the dress. While Maryam said it was only a tiny bit ripped, the other girls said that it was a huge rip. Linsay was first to walk, with a dress designed by Thien Le, and was worried he would think she ripped the dress. Maryam was next in a dress by David Dixon, and repeatedly looked down on the runway. Nikita wore a dress designed by Joyce Gunhouse for Comrags and Meaghan wore one by Lucian Matis. Meaghan’s dress was too big, and she had to hold it up with her hand on her hip.

As the girls came back out for their evaluation, Linsay tripped up the stairs. Maryam said that Linsay had turned a small rip much bigger, and that it wasn’t completely her fault, but Linsay said that it had already been ripped before she took a step. Miss J and the designers discussed the finalists. They thought that Meaghan was a little stiff, while Linsay held the dress well and was a favourite of some of the designers; Maryam kept looking at the floor and Nikita, while she fit the dress well, would be better for editorial than catwalk. The girls were called back out and it was announced that Linsay was the challenge winner. For her prize, she went shoe shopping at Holt Renfrew with Miss J.

Back at the loft, Nikita and Meaghan did a confessional about Maryam ripping the dress, and took turns commenting on her behaviour. When they came out, they were worried Maryam had heard them talking about her.

The girls received a ‘Jay Mail’ about how a magazine is always judged by its cover, and headed to Toronto’s Distillery District for a CoverGirl photo shoot with Mike Ruiz. Ruiz explained how he was shooting an actual ad for CoverGirl Exact Eyelights, and the winner of Canada’s Next Top Model would have her ad featured nationwide. Nikita was worried she was too edgy for CoverGirl. Linsay was up first. Nolé and Mike both agreed that she had done a good job. Maryam went up second. Nolé explained to her how she had to be soft, not fierce, and she really blew them away. Meaghan went up next, and her confidence and focus were lost after repeatedly having changes to her hair and makeup, causing her to break down. Mike changed his perception of her and wondered if she really could pull it off, while Nolé deemed her the biggest disappointment of the day. Nikita was the last to go, and surprised Mike and Nolé with her soft shots. Back at the loft, Meaghan and Nikita were not confident and said that they were expecting to go home. A ‘Jay Mail’ told the girls there would be eliminations the next day.

At elimination, the girls one by one had to come in to walk. Yet again, Linsay impressed Miss J with her walk, but Meaghan immediately showed her lack of confidence from her poor performance in the photo shoot. Maryam upset the judges by looking down again.

Each girl was told that they had done a good job at the photo shoot. Linsay was up first, and was praised for her strong walk and beautiful photo. Maryam was told she performed well, and was Nolé’s favorite of the day to shoot, but had sadness in her eyes and expression. Nikita and Meaghan showed little confidence, Meaghan for the wardrobe changes and Nikita for not looking like a CoverGirl, and critiqued their own photos, which the judges liked.

Before evaluating the photos, Jay told the girls that he had gotten word from the designers that one of the dresses was ripped, and asked for an explanation. Linsay, whose dress was ripped, explained that Maryam had tried to help but ripped the dress a significant amount. Maryam said that it was only a little rip, but Meaghan and Nikita sided with Linsay.

Linsay was called first for the second week in a row, but was told that nobody got photo of the week this week. Nikita, despite her lack of confidence, was called next for blowing the judges away with her photo. Meaghan and Maryam landed in the bottom two. Jay told Meaghan she had a slow rise and at the first sign of trouble, came crashing down. He told Maryam she has shown she can consistently overcome hurdles but the judges worry that the industry just won’t put up with all the complications. He said a lot of heated arguments and tears ensued and asked what was harder to overcome – a complicated life or a lack of confidence? In the end Meaghan was told she needed to find a way to get over her confidence issue, while Maryam was eliminated.

Canada’s Next Top Model – Bright Lights – No Pity

Aired: June 30, 2009

The girls arrived home after panel and are welcomed by a Jay Mail, which told them that he was high on a tower. Much to Nikita’s dislike, the girls went up to the top of the tower by elevator, where Nikita explained that she was afraid of heights. At the top, Jay said the view reminded him of the view from his apartment in New York, and surprised the girls by saying that they could see his apartment for themselves, as they were going to New York City. All of the girls except for Maryam screamed with excitement when they learned they would be going on go-sees and meeting designers, but Maryam told Jay she still didn’t have her passport; it was coming. Jay explained how last time, when the others went to the Bahamas, he provided Maryam with a special mock photo shoot, but this time, in fairness to the other girls, he couldn’t do that and she would be staying in Toronto.

The four girls arrived to the bright lights of the Big Apple and found out they’d be staying in the Presidential Suite at the Sheraton New York hotel. A Jay Mail informed the girls they only had two minutes to get out the door and would be heading on their go-sees, leaving them no time to unpack. Jay told them that they would have $100 spending cash, a map, their portfolios and an LG cell phone with their first appointment and a number to text to find out the location of their next one.

At first, all of the girls struggled to find a taxi, not knowing how to flag one down. Meaghan upset Nikita twice: first when she took a taxi she had already flagged down, and second when she was already at a location when Nikita arrived. Heather also did poorly, having forgotten her high heels at the apartment and only having boots. Linsay changed into her pants in the taxi. Meaghan left her portfolio at the previous agency and didn’t have it for her current go-see, but the designer told her that he knows when he sees a girl who photographs well, and feels that Meaghan is a good photograph model.

Linsay and Meaghan arrived back at the agency first, followed by Heather. Nikita struggled to return back by 5:00, having traveled part of the way on foot until there were no more buildings and then paying $40 to hitchhike back. However, she arrived back at the agency late.

Elmer Olsen from Elmer Olsen Models, one of the sponsors of this cycle’s prizes, came out, surprising the girls. He explained to Nikita that being late makes a really bad impression, and announced that two girls were very close to winning. In the end, Meaghan won the challenge for her strong look and runway walk. Linsay placed in a very close second, followed by Heather and Nikita in the bottom 2.

They met Nolé Marin on a rooftop at 230 Fifth, which overlooked the New York City skyline, for the next photoshoot, who was joined by Sutan, the lead makeup artist on America’s Next Top Model. The girls learned that they would be doing two shoots this week, two different alter egos, which would be compiled into one photo. In the first shot, the girls would have to imagine themselves as being a different geeky crew member, and in the second they had to imagine themselves as a diva.

The girls worked to get into character for the geeky alter ego, and played with the geeky glasses that were a part of the wardrobe. All of the girls did a decent job. For the diva alter ego, the girls had extreme makeup and wigs dyed by Perfect 10, with hair colors different to the hair they had. All of the girls managed to pull off a great shot, while Linsay impressed Nolé by really thinking about her poses and how they would look compiled together. Back in Toronto, Maryam worked hard to make up not participating in the photoshoot. She called a friend who was a photographer, and did a photo shoot with a gecko.

After the photo shoot, the girls received a ‘Jay Mail’ telling them they had a $5,000 Visa card to spend in New York. They decided to split it four ways, and went shopping on Bleecker Street, and out to a nice restaurant for a dinner out.

Back in Canada, the girls were judged on their photos. Linsay impressed the judges with her strong performance at the go-sees, and for her good photo. Meaghan, Nikita and Heather also told they had good photos; Meaghan was praised for winning the go-sees, while Heather and Nikita were told they did the worst, and failed to impress very many of the designers. When Maryam was called up, she explained to the judges about the situation with not having her passport and finding a friend to help her do a photo shoot. She presented them with a photograph in an envelope, Jay said she would be evaluated on her body of work, and told her that she was definitely at a disadvantage due to missing out on the experience of traveling and meeting designers, a major part of being in the fashion industry, but thought her actions demonstrated how badly she wanted to be in the competition and the business.

After the deliberation, Linsay was called first and got photo of the week, for commanding the room during her go-sees and for her strong photo. Meaghan was called next. Jay told the remaining three girls that the judges debated over the situation over Maryam not having a passport. The judges found Maryam’s body of work strong enough for her to stay in the competition, and presented her with a blank photo, meaning that there would be no photo from this week to be added to her portfolio. Nikita and Heather landed in the bottom 2, not for their pictures, which Jay explained were not bad, just OK, but for their preformances in New York. In the end, Heather was eliminated. After her elimination, Heather said that she was a little bit relieved, because after her experience in New York, she realized that modeling was not what she wanted to do.

Battle Of The Blondes

Aired: June 23, 2009

The girls were taken to Toronto’s Masonic Temple, home of MTV, where they met “After Show” hosts Dan Levy and Jessi Cruickshank, who were about to give them some media training. After hearing some tips on how to promote themselves and how to master the art of redirecting a question from a reporter, each girl was called up individually and asked a scandalous fake question to see if they could talk their way out of it. Maryam was up first and was asked about being in a “sex tape.”A shocked Maryam didn’t realize the questions were fake and asked if it was actually true. The other girls couldn’t contain their laughter and Dan had to explain that the questions weren’t real.

Nikita was next and was asked about her bad girl image. She replied by saying she knows she talks like a sailor.Meaghan was told she was seen doing cocaine backstage but replied that it may have been from a photo taken years ago.Heather was asked about her “baby bump” and she said it was due to eating a large meal.Linsay was asked about mistaking Karl Lagerfeld as a publicist and she said she didn’t get a good look at him.

Rebeccah was asked about how she handled posing with another woman naked from the waist up in her latest campaign. Rebeccah said she wasn’t uncomfortable with it because she was a lesbian. The other girls were surprised, not because she was, but because she actually came out and said it.When the challenge was over, Jeanne Beker came out to tell the girls they would be put to the test at Toronto Fashion Week! The girls had only 10 minutes to get ready and were driven off in a limo.

The girls were taken to opening night of Toronto’s LG Fashion Week to face the media, while Jeanne secretly watched from behind the scenes.Nikita said she had a bit of an anxiety attack when they first arrived and saw all the people. After watching a runway show, the girls were interviewed on the red carpet by MuchMusic’s Trevor Boris and etalk’s Lainey. They were grilled about what they were wearing, about being a role model, about whether it was important for models to be thin, and whether they could name any Canadian designers.Trevor thought Meaghan and Rebeccah did the best, but Jeanne chose Nikita as the challenge winner. She received a $4,000 shopping spree at Holt Renfrew.

The girls walked over to Tryst nightclub where they met Nolé Marin and Yasmin Warsame.Nolé explained they would be working with an LG Secret mobile phone in their next photo shoot and would be paired off to try and steal the spotlight from each other. The pairs would be Nikita and Rebeccah, Maryam and Linsay and Heather and Meaghan.Yasmin posed for some photos first to show the girls how it was done. The finalists were introduced to their photographer Dan Lim as Nikita was whisked off for her Holt Renfrew shopping spree.Maryam and Linsay were up first. Maryam struggled with being natural. Nolé thought Linsay needed to step up her game this week and figured Maryam probably got the shot.Meaghan was nervous before the shoot about posing with Heather.Nolé thought while Meaghan did well, he didn’t know if she did better than Heather.Meanwhile, Nikita met her personal shopper Marlo at Holt Renfrew. When Nikita got back it was time for her shoot with Rebeccah.Nolé thought he got the shot from Rebeccah but it was a little troublesome trying to get there.Back at the loft, Nikita hammed it up while Rebeccah got really quiet and the girls expressed concern about her.

The next day, a ‘Jay Mail’ informed the girls it was time for eliminations.

The girls were called up in pairs, according to their photos.

Nikita and Rebeccah were up first. Dan said he was drawn to Nikita’s face and Jay said she gave the “pretty ugly” look. Jeanne didn’t love her body position. Jay called Rebeccah’s face the “ugly pretty” but Mike thought her body position was more elegant. Jeanne said sometimes she’s feeling more actress than model from Rebeccah. Jay said a model knows how to bring actress into a photo but keep it pretty.

Heather and Meaghan were up next. Jay told Meaghan he had a tough time finding a shot of her because they were all so good. Yasmin thought she made the dress look beautiful and it was all about her. Dan said Meaghan was great to work with. Jay told Heather he thought Meaghan might have stolen her spotlight. Mike said Heather had a beautiful shot but she missed the point of the exercise.

Maryam and Linsay were up next. Jeanne thought Linsay looked phony because people usually don’t have their eyes wide open when they’re laughing with their heads thrown back. When Jay asked Dan what Linsay was like to work with, he said she got lost in the crowd a bit. Mike thought Maryam’s picture was completely believable and Jeanne thought she did a great job. Jay liked this other side of her – smiling in a photo.

During deliberations, Mike thought while Rebeccah gave some thought to her body language and liked the quality of her face, her actress skills were not translating into model skills. Jay couldn’t believe Nikita had $4,000 worth of designer clothes sitting in her closet and walked into eliminations looking like a “schlob.” Jeanne said she wasn’t sure if she saw her as an international runway model. Dan thought Meaghan looked gorgeous and sold the dress and phone, but Jeanne thought as beautiful as she is, has a look she’s seen before. Mike thought Linsay lacked an awareness of her body and should’ve stepped up by now. Jay wondered when she was going to find her legs. Yasmin didn’t think Heather did justice to anything but Mike liked the way she was posing and thought she was elegant. Jay asked when the ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’ became elegant. Yasmin thought Maryam stole the spotlight and Jay thought she was always in her own world. Jeanne said fashion waits for no one.

The girls were called back in and Meaghan received photo of the week while Linsay and Rebeccah landed in the Bottom 2.Jay told them they both brought an ‘extreme’ to their photo that didn’t serve the creative nor LG, the client. In the end, it was Rebeccah who was eliminated.

Tara’s Top Model Journey Comes to an End on Tonight’s Episode of CTV’s CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL

* The next episode of CNTM airs on Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET

Toronto, ON – Tara’s catwalk dreams came to an abrupt halt tonight on CTV’s CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. The 19-year-old from Chateauguay, Quebec is the latest model hopeful to be eliminated from the competition.

Last week’s episode was the most-watched yet, with 828,000 viewers 2+. Up 26% compared to the previous week’s episode, CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL was second in its timeslot only to Game 6 of The Stanley Cup Playoffs. The episode was the #1 program with women 18-34 nationally as well as in Toronto and Vancouver.*

Last night, it was all about the girls learning how to let their personalities shine. Canadian supermodel Irina Lazareanu was on hand with CNTM judge Mike Ruiz to draw charisma out of the girls at the challenge. Mousey Heather from Halifax stepped up and was the most dynamic and engaging. At their photo shoot, each girl had their mouth taped shut with duct tape and had to express all of their emotion through their eyes. And, while Tara’s body is undeniably incredible, she didn’t deliver the same range in her face. After two weeks of holding back in her shoots, the judges cut her loose. “Maybe I was just scared to express myself too much,” she said.

Tune into ETALK tonight (Wednesday, June 17 at 7:30 pm ET) for the national broadcast exclusive with Tara after the judges sent her home.

Encore presentations of tonight’s episode air on Star! and FashionTelevisionChannel, Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET; on MTV, Thursday at 10 p.m. ET; and a special Sunday night catch-up broadcast airs on ‘A’ at 10 p.m. ET. Episode 5 premieres Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

Canada’s Next Top Model -Transformers Episode – Aired: June 2, 2009

When the girls get back to the house, there is a bit of tension based on Nikita’s attitude towards most of the girls, and the fact that Tiffany, a well liked contestant, was sent home. The girls are then sent to a court room where Jay is dressed up as a judge and tells each girl the verdict of their ‘crime’; their sentences are their makeovers.

The girls then go to the hair salon, where they are given their makeovers. Linsay and Rebeccah are given the biggest change, where Tara, Maryam, and Heather get more subtle makeovers. Nikita throws a small fit with her makeover, because she thinks her bangs are too short, but then gets used to the change. The challenge of the week is that the girls go to H&M, where they meet fashionista June Ambrose. They are told they have a limited amount of time to put together a fashionable outfit, and then it will be judged. Nikita has trouble finding an outfit, but the rest of the girls find the challenge easy. Rebeccah wins the challenge, for pulling together a quirky summer outfit, and making it look hot. For their photoshoot, the girls must pose in high-fashion Italian clothing, while posing on a ladder, creating chemistry with a male model. While some girls do well, others have a bit harder of a time, but all of them pull off a half-decent shot.

In judging, the judges are satisfied with all the girls makeovers. One by one, each girl is called up to have their photo critiqued. Rebeccah is told her photo resembles Twiggy to much, and Jill is told she improved leaps and bounds from her last photo, but still needs to bring more of a fashion edge. Nikita is hailed for her high fashion photo, and is told it could grace the cover of any fashion magazine. Maryam is told she needs to show her face better, and is critized for her slip from last week’s photos. Heather, Ebonie, Tara, Linsay, and Meghan also do well.

When the girls are called back in, Jay announces how hard the decision was, and that he thought the competition would never got so hard this early. Nikita is called first for her vogue like photo, and Jay says he wants to hang it in his living room. In the end, it is Jill and Rebeccah in the bottom 2. Jill is commended for her improvement, but the judges doubt her high-fashion appeal, and wonder if her heart is really in the competion. Rebeccah is told that she has to find her own personality and style, without resembling someone else. It is Rebeccah that is given another chance, and Jill is the second girl eliminated.

Last week on Canada’s Next Top Model at the photo shoot, the first causality of the competition was revealed when Alexandra tearfully quit the competition due to pain from a previous injury. Her unexpected exit had the girls atwitter as they moved into their new, celeb-calibre digs at the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel overlooking Toronto’s skyline. More drama ensued and the first sign of cattiness reared its ugly head when Heather, Jill, and Nikita returned to the loft to find that they have their own room and a spread of special gifts waiting for them.

During the first elimination, the girls were introduced to the judging panel: Jeanne Beker, supermodel Yasmin Warsame, Montreal native and A-List photographer Mike Ruiz, and guest judge Nigel Barker. Although one competitor had already gone home, the judges still sent Tiffany packing.

Now nine contestants are left to vie for a modeling contract with Elmer Olsen Model Management, an editorial spread in FASHION Magazine and a $100,000 beauty contract from P&G Beauty: makers of Cover Girl, Olay, Crest Whitestrips and Perfect 10 by Nice ‘n Easy.

Then the newly-polished models face another challenge with someone who knows celebrity style and a photo shoot at the stunning Galleria Italia – The Art Gallery of Ontario’s sculpture gallery designed by Frank Gehry. But the fun of photos, makeovers, and challenges all come to an end when another girl gets the boot and goes home.
