ABBY LEE MILLER TO GUEST JUDGE ON THE QUARTER FINALS OF “DANCING WITH THE STARS,” MONDAY, MAY 5
The First Ever “Celebrity Dance Duel” Features Side-By-Side Celebrity Performances
Mark Ballas Debuts His New Single “Get My Name”
“Episode 1808” – Reality television personality and professional choreographer Abby Lee Miller of “Dance Moms” joins as a guest judge alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba on “Dancing with the Stars” MONDAY, MAY 5 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. No stranger to the world of competitive dancing, Abby will bring a unique perspective and surely won’t hold back from articulating while seated at the judge’s table. The anticipated quarter finals begin as Pro Mark Ballas makes his solo recording artist debut singing his new single “Get My Name,” along with his band and the house band “Ray Chew Live.” Then, the remaining couples will perform an individual dance and the first ever “Celebrity Dance Duel.”
In the Duel Round, two couples will be paired up to perform a style of dance that they’ve both previously performed. All four members of the mini team will dance together to the same song but during the middle of the performance, the Pros will leave the floor, leaving the two celebrities to dance together. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Abby Lee Miller’s love for dance came from her mother, Maryen Lorrian Miller, who was a 50 year member of Dance Masters of America. Maryen owned seven dance studios in Miami, Florida, and taught classes all over the city before opening her main studio in Penn Hills. Abby took classes throughout her formative years at her mother’s studio. After traveling with her to several national dance conventions, she was inspired and captivated by the newest “dance craze” competitions! At just 14 years-old she started the Abby Lee Dance Company. In 1980, she opened her own dance studio and estimates she has taught 3,000 to 4,000 students throughout her career. Now known for her incredible dedication, discipline and passion, Abby is one of the most sought-after dance teachers in Pittsburgh, as she has turned out numerous professional dance stars. In summer 2011, Abby made her national television debut on Lifetime’s “Dance Moms.” The show has gone on to become one of the networks highest rated docu-series and Abby Lee Miller has become a bona fide star and world-renowned dance persona. This summer, Lifetime will premiere “Abby’s Studio Rescue.”
Mark Ballas makes his solo recording artist debut on “Dancing with the Stars” with the premiere of his new single “Get My Name.” The song touts a soulful but fun, funky pop sound. The single and music video, which is directed by Pro Dancer Derek Hough, will be available on iTunes and across digital retail outlets globally beginning on May 5th. Mark is the son of award-winning Latin American dancers “Corky” and Shirley Ballas. He grew up surrounded by movement and sound and was classically trained on the Flamenco guitar since the age of nine. In London, he graduated with honors from the world-renowned Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts. He is a Martin Guitar Ambassador along with Eric Clapton and John Mayer and is also endorsed by Kremona Flamenco Guitars. In the last year, Mark has sold out the acclaimed Troubadour in West Hollywood, opened for Robin Thicke both in New York and Los Angeles — receiving two standing ovations at LA’s Wiltern Theater. He performed at will.i.am’s Trans4rm Pre-Grammy Party with the Black Eyed Peas band sharing the same bill as Alicia Keys and Estelle. Mark also performed acoustic sets at SXSW in Austin, TX and several other venues throughout the country.
