How many people can say they got out of mandatory probation to be on American Idle? At least one.
One of the American Idol season 10 finalists, Jacob Lusk is lucky to be on the show at all. In 2009, Lusk was cited for riding the metro train in Los Angeles without a ticket, and he blew off the court hearing. So the court issued an arrest warrant for him.
Skip forward to November 2010; Right after he auditioned for American Idol, Lusk was pulled over for a traffic stop. The officer discovered the warrant and arrested Lusk.
He spent the night in jail, and the next day in court he was sentenced to 3 days in jail and 2 years of probation for his mistake. After serving his time in jail, he went back to the courts and begged to have his probation removed so he could compete on Idol. There are many strict rules for the contestants on the show, and not being on probation is one of them. Luckily for Jacob Lusk, the judge sympathized with him, and his probation was terminated.
Lusk is from Compton, California and sang the whole time he was serving his 3-day sentence in preparation for being on American Idol.Jacob’s soulful, angelic voice is great at pulling heart strings. His song selection for this season focuses on slower, deep songs like Billi Holiday’s God Bless The Child, Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and the Beatles’ The Long and Winding Road.
Lusk knows how to pick a song to suit his voice, and while it is unclear if he had to perform in front of the judge to verify his story, Idol fans are happy for the judge’s leniency as he progresses into the top 7 finalist round this week.

I for one am just thrilled that the judge was sympathized with Jacob so that he could be a blessing to all of us who love him and his voice on American Idol. I am an avid AI fan, and I have not been as excited about a contestant since Melinda Doolittle. It is so great to be supporting someone that is not only a good singer, but who also is not afraid to speak up and out about his belief in a higher power. God is good….
