America’s Next Top Model Season 13: “Let’s Go Surfing”

TYRA TAKES THE REMAINING GIRLS TO HAWAII

When their house gets condemned, Tyra sends the models to Maui for the remainder of the competition. The girls meet with surfing champ Buzzy Kerbox for surf lessons to prepare for their first photo shoot challenge, and Tyra surprises them by transforming them into bi-racial models. This week’s guest judge is supermodel Kirsty Hume (#1309).

On last week’s episode the girls met Ant and Lara Spencer from The Insider to learn interview skills. With the aim of teaching them to think on their feet, Ant made life difficult for the models by acting out celebrity interview stereotypes. Ann Shoket arrived and informed them that they would be interviewing Jessica Lowndes as their challenge. To make things harder, their autocues were deliberately cut mid-interview. Jennifer and Erin shined with their improv, while Laura’s dyslexia caused her to clam up, and Nicole struggled to ask appropriate questions. Erin won the challenge and chose Rae and Jennifer to share in her win - an editorial spread for Seventeen.

This week’s photo shoot was replaced with a commercial for CoverGirl. The girls wrote their own scripts and Erin finished quickly, while Laura and Nicole had a hard time and spent hours practicing. Again Jennifer shined, but Erin had to continually fight back tears, while Laura pushed through despite struggling with her learning difficulty.

At panel, Jennifer and Nicole were praised, while Brittany delivered all of her lines flawlessly but failed to show her personality. Sundai and Laura were told they had written good scripts but castigated for their poor delivery. Ultimately Rae and Erin landed in the bottom two; Erin for her incessant crying on-set, and Rae for fading into the background amongst the other girls. Erin was told she has more potential, and with that Rae was eliminated.
