The Biggest Loser 10/6/09 Episode Recap

October 10th, 2009 · No Comments

The show starts by showing Tracey betraying the other team mates last week. Shay confronts her. Mo still defending her. Shay says “all I want is you to be honest.” Tracey says, “I didn’t do anything.” Bob and Jillian meet with teams and are told how Antoine and Sean “fell on the sword”. Jillian says they need to fight for it and not do favors; Bob: Shay needs to be here, yes, but you ALL need to be here! Tracey still hasn’t been in the gym training because of injury. She might be cleared tomorrow.

Training in the gym starts with Bob and Jillian working everyone out. Rebecca is sad that red team is gone. Shay says she wants to make sure Antoine and Sean didn’t go home for nothing. Jill yells at Julio. She says she does this to bring up old issues and confront them; he says he’s happy and she says he’s not – that he can’t be 407 lbs. of happy. “Have you ever been good enough? Have you ever been excellent?” He says he was excellent at food and even obsessed with it – it was “his drug of choice.”

Tracey meets with Dr. H to see how she’s doing. She says she’s waiting to hear if she is cleared to exercise; they show a recap of her injury from the first day. He tells her that her CPK levels are up to 17000, up from 9000. He says it’s not life threatening, but they’re going to have to shut her down for a week – no exercising, walking, swimming. She freaks out wondering how she’s going to lose weight – that she’s not finished yet. When she gets back, Mo comes to visit her and she tells him that she’s been put on a highly restricted activity level. She’s not supposed to lose weight this week according to the doctor, so Mo is going to have to “carry the weight for the team”.

Ali shows up that night and tells the team to look around the kitchen; everything is locked down. Ali tells them everything will be locked up all week long and everyone is going to have to order out every single meal. Since they won’t be able to eat every meal at home, they’re going to work on teaching them how to eat out properly. Today they’re going to do a pop challenge. There are three choices for dinner and whichever team chooses the healthiest options will win a stocked kitchen for an entire year. The teams are brought in individually to see the dinners, which are all chicken-based.

Dinner A: 1/4 roasted chicken breast without skin (175). 1/2 cup low fat creamed spinach (80), 2.75 oz sweet potatoes (95), 1/2 cup nonfat peach frozen yogurt (100), and 2 cups unsweetened ice tea (0).

Dinner B: 1/2 rotisserie chicken with skin, 1/2 cup creamed spinach, 1/2 cup vanilla frozen yogurt, 1/2 cup blueberries, and 2 cups green tea.

Dinner C: 1/4 BBQ chicken breast with skin, 1 cup (?) brown rice, 1 cup peas and carrots, 1 cup mango slices, and 1 cup skim milk.

Teams are given two minutes to ask questions to Ali. BBQ is a sugar sauce, brown rice is in Dinner C (not listed in menu). Many of the teams go with Dinner C, others select meal A. No team picks Dinner B. Dinner A ends up as the best – it sounds like they didn’t reveal the menu and the teams just had to ask questions. Brown, orange, and pink got it right and they get one question: how many calories in dinner A? The closest without going over wins the groceries. Brown guesses 547, pink 385, and orange 475. Correct answer is 445 calories and pink wins. The teams also all get the Biggest Loser cookbook.

The teams are shown looking through menus and ordering out, giving instructions for how they want food prepared, etc. All of the teams are very anxious about what the food will be like, whether it will be cooked properly, etc. All of the people are going through their food showing the various mistakes that were made by the restaurant. Some food is included that they didn’t want and others get food they are allergic to. Trainer Tip from Jillian: If you really like mashed potatoes, use cauliflower instead of potatoes because they have the same texture but have fewer calories.

Bob and Jillian visit and find out they’re ordering out week. Danny talks about how they have control when making their own food and how they don’t like someone else making food for them. Bob and Jillian then tell the teams they’re going to take them out to eat. Jillian asks who brought the calorie counting book and no one did. They all bypass the chips and salsa – if they’re sitting there, you’ll eat them. They’re at a Mexican restaurant and Jillian taunts them about they’re not going to be able to get all the things they normally would like. Jillian slams her hand on the table and criticizes Rebecca for her answers about why she’s here – “I want to be healthy.” She says they need to have goals that are concrete and achievable. Bob says that you don’t need to never have these things but you need to be in control. Even the trainers make these decisions every day; it’s not easy but they know how good it makes them feel. The teams are then shown ordering food, with Bob and Jillian helping out.

Some of the people end up sending food back to get it done right. Bob and Jillian say the two ways to do vegetables are steaming and roasting. Jillian: “Don’t worry about sugar; worry about calories – the sugar in fruit is locked in as fructose as opposed to being table sugar.” They analyze the final orders and choose the best options.

Trainer Tip from Bob: Plan ahead before going out to eat and visit the restaurant’s website. Avoid anything sautéed or fried and order food grilled, baked, poached, or broiled. If the kitchen can’t tell you how something is prepared, stay away.

The teams are next shown at a challenge, which appears to be at a water park. Several people don’t like the thought of water. Ali tells them that they’re playing for immunity. Each person will grab hold of a handlebar on a platform, which will then rotate and get steeper until it goes vertical. Whoever is on last wins immunity. Abby and Tracey will again be sitting out with injuries. They start and the platform is rotated to about 45 degrees. Liz is the first in the water, and Danny is hanging by one hand; he goes in next and brown is out. Amanda is next, followed by Rudy. Rebecca falls next and pink is out, and then Dina so blue is out. Shay is still hanging on – the last girl. Mo falls after about five minutes and purple is out, so only four teams are left. Shay falls at about ten minutes. Julio falls and is in third place, leaving Allen and Daniel. Allen looks much fitter than Daniel, and looks like he will win, but we cut to the commercial and a recap of the show so far.

In the recap, they show a “287 – 0 weight loss”, which appears to be Daniel. Then they go back to the challenge, Allen says “see ya!” and falls in, so Daniel wins. Since Daniel won immunity, the teaser clip showing a weight loss of 0 isn’t too surprising. Daniel is also congratulated for meeting his goal and staying on longer than four weeks.

Last chance workout begins, and Bob and Jillian are “working to beat out some of the crappy food they’ve been eating all week.” Jillian works with Rudy and he isn’t doing what she wants him to do. “I’m tired, I haven’t eaten, etc.” She just rips into him and he says to the camera that he’s not prepared mentally today. He appears to keep working despite struggles. Next is Bob working pink team – “pink team has to work for every single pound they get!” Liz talks to the camera and says she feels like she might have gained weight this week. Julio looks like he’s doing well.

They cut to Tracey in the house not working out, saying how sad she is. Mo says he’s working twice as hard to keep them there one more week. He looks like he’s working hard and Julio says he’s an old warrior. After one of the rotations, it appears that Mo may have overdone it and he cramps up or has some other sort of problem and the medical staff comes in. Mo says he’s “done”.

Bob can see the pain, and Mo looks like he’s trying to walk it out. Bob says it looks like Mo is panicking and that makes your injury feel worse. Bob says he has brought 20 years of pain with him and he’s struggling. Mo says he’s thought about going home, but Bob says the pain will stay with him. He tells Mo to rest for an hour and see if that will help and if he can then get back on a bike. “Figure out what’s going to be best for you in this situation.” Bob says he needs to get his head on straight and then he’ll be okay. Triumphant music plays as Mo reenters the gym a while later, saying he’s “still here” and that he wants to stay.

Going into the weigh in, everyone seems to have no idea what will happen this week. Liz says everyone on campus could have gained weight this week it was so crazy. Ali recaps the week and the “experiment” – it’s not about just the weight you have lost but the knowledge you have gained. Dina says she probably went under her calories a lot because she didn’t eat a lot of the food since it wasn’t prepared right. Liz sums up the week as “it sucked!” One team will be going home this week.

The weigh in starts with orange, since they have immunity. Daniel loses 0 pounds and Ali says, “not a bad strategy”. Daniel says it wasn’t, but Bob and Jillian say he’s playing the game like everyone else. Green team is next, and Abby has been struggling since she’s limited to the pool.

Green loses 10 pounds combined – Abby has lost 34 pounds in a month. Blue team is next and Rudy says after three weeks he’s worried he may have hit the wall. They weigh in and Rudy loses 11 and Dina 5, putting them at 2.57% and the lead for now. Brown is next, and Liz feels like she did horrible and hopes Danny did well. She’s “praying” for him. Liz and Danny don’t do that great with 1.74%, and putting them at the bottom for now. Purple team is next and Mo says he hopes he has done enough to keep them there. Tracey says she’s expecting to gain weight, but that she’s moving towards her goal – she needs to find a balance and prepare to be a mother, wife, and lose weight. They need to lose 10 pounds to be safe, and Tracey wasn’t supposed to lose anything. Mo thinks he doesn’t have 10 pounds this week and “he’s going home”.

Mo ends up losing 8 and she loses 4 – even though she wasn’t supposed to lose anything. Shay is angry that “another healthy team is going home while they get to stay.” Tracey says she’s “shocked” about her loss. They move into second so they’re safe for sure and green and brown are still in danger. Julio is next and needs to lose 8 pounds to be safe. Julio gets 4 pounds and says he “struggled mightily to get those four pounds … it is what it is, Alison.” At 1.09%, Julio will be below the yellow line for sure. Jill thinks that his results should have been higher, and she says something is not right – that if he makes it through elimination, it will be their mission to find out what’s going on. Pink is the last to weigh in and they need to lose 9 pounds to stay safe. They get 9 pounds, the first time Amanda has beaten Rebecca, and they’re at 1.86% (just barely above brown). Julio and brown team are below the yellow line. Ali says, “everyone needs to be here, so how do you make this decision?” Julio says two staying is better for the people than one, but at the same time getting rid of two competitors is better for the game than only removing one – that we’ll have to see how everything plays out.

Liz says she’s not going to fight against Julio to say, and that the teams are going to have to figure it out for themselves. Julio says he “loves” Liz and Dan, and that this is a worst-case situation for all of them. Julio says he wants to be here but he’s not going to step in front of either of the others to stay. Amanda asks Liz if she thinks she can continue the journey at home and Liz says she doesn’t know. Mo steps in to say that everyone eventually has to go, and Danny says, “here, the mountain doesn’t seem like such a mountain – here, it’s easier.” Julio says he’d rather do it here but he’s prepared to go if that’s what it takes. There’s a lot of crying during the talks.

Mo says Julio is his closest friend in the house and made a deal to not write his name down, and Tracey says she made a deal with Liz. Orange and pink are shown talking, saying that brown would write their names down without hesitation. They discuss strategy and suggest perhaps removing two might be better. The cut to commercial says, “see how the eliminated player looks today” – did they make a mistake and give away the ending?

Tracey says she has no idea how the house is going to decide. Liz says “Danny needs to be here.” Julio says he hopes the people he’s befriended will keep him here. Ali says, if everyone wants to be here, needs to be here, deserves to be here, how do you make the decision? Shay says they picked the team they felt could do the best at home, and they pick Julio. Blue team is next, and Dina says they went back and forth a bit and ultimately settled on Liz and Danny. Rudy says that he felt they as a team have each other and they won’t let each other down at home. Green is next and Allen says they couldn’t make a choice with their hearts, so they tried to use logic. They chose Julio. Ali asks what he means by “logic” and Allen says Julio is one of his closest friends, but the logic is that he has a chance to help two people instead of one. It’s “flawed logic” because he doesn’t want to turn his back on a friend. Abby says she loves them both as well and Julio says he’s not upset by their decision. (More tears.) Purple team is next, and Tracey says Mo and Julio were best friends while Tracey and Liz are roommates. They were at a deadlock until the last minute; she says they had to make a decision and they both cried, but they voted for Julio. So, Tracey got her way yet again and made Mo go with her choice. With three votes, Julio is eliminated (and apparently the slip before the commercial was correct).

Julio says he was really concerned before the Biggest Loser as he was leading the whole family into an unhealthy lifestyle. He says he has now changed leaps and bounds, he’s no longer afraid. “Sometimes in life you need a jumpstart – something different.” Julio thanks everyone associated with the Biggest Loser and says he’s going to make bob and Jillian proud.

They show some clips of Julio when he first arrived and he says he now looks forward to going to the gym. He weighed 299 pounds at the time this episode aired, working hard to get where he has been going and making a positive impression on his family. His daughter says how proud she is of him. Julio says he still loves to cook, but now he tries to buy fresher foods and make everything from scratch. “My love for food is not gone; I’m just changing the way I do it. The only thing that had to change for me to be successful was me, my attitude.”

The preview of next week shows that they’ll be rearranging the teams and that someone will get the golden ticket and get to choose what the teams will be. There’s a suggestion that Tracey may win that chance and everyone will be screwed.
