“I had no idea how much my life was going to change watching that show on television the first time,” said Matt. “I can remember thinking to myself “What the heck are they thinking? Don’t they realize how big they are?” I found myself enthralled with the whole scene and continued to watch. As I watched the rest of the episode and saw what they were doing I thought to myself, ‘I should be on this show, I could win.’”

And indeed he did win. Matt walked away not only with a new lease on life and a smaller waistline, but also a hefty $250,000 prize.

“I was always telling myself that I could lose the weight anytime I wanted, I hadn’t wanted to yet. As I lay on the couch that night, something in my head said maybe it was time to try something different.”

A former wrestler for the University of Iowa, Matt knew he had what it took to workout and get the job done.

“I watched as the contestants cried about how hard the workouts were and how they were so sad that they had gotten as big as they were and my brain started racing about how I could win the show, and I did. At the end of the show, a website ran across the bottom of the screen. I literally rolled off the couch, walked a few steps to my computer, caught my breath, got on-line and applied for the show.”
