This week on The Biggest Loser the drama was high as Ron returned from the elimination. Helen, Filipe and Sione all realized Ron was going to be out to get them now that he knows they want him gone. Ron called out Filipe for telling him he was “fine” before the voting. Mike was also upset about his dad getting stabbed in the back while Kristin recognized that Ron was both cutthroat and competitive.
The next day, Ali was waiting in the gym which was filled with silver platters everywhere for a temptation challenge. The 100 trays are hiding fattening snacks, some healthy Extra gum with cash, and one lucky golden ticket that will give the player who uncovers it the power to cast the sole vote at the elimination. As each player tried to get the lucky platter, they racked up the calories. Finally Laura got the golden ticket, and she and Tara screamed with excitement as they realized they would be safe another week. The trainers walked into the gym as the contestants were cleaning up the remnants of their temptation. None too pleased, Bob and Jillian trained together to “kick their butts and beat the crap out of them.” Everyone but Laura was regretting how overboard they went at the temptation, but Sione tried to rationalize his mistakes as a fight for power.
Jillian took her team to Subway for a healthy meal. Last season’s father/daughter duo Colleen and Jerry walked in looking great, and they taught the team how to make a healthy sandwich. Jillian gave them some tips, like using mustard and vinegar instead of oil and mayonnaise, apples instead of fries and iced tea instead of soda. Everyone realized that adjustments like these would help them keep up the healthy lifestyle once they leave the ranch.
This week’s challenge was at the Rose Bowl (stadium), and Filipe was excited to be there. Their task was to run the stairs — all 2,156 of them. It’s also men versus women, with the winner in each gender to compete in a second heat. The prize was a two-week trip for four to a fitness spa in Utah. Sione and Tara won the first leg and had to face-off against each other. Although most of the race was close, Tara edged out Sione once again for the victory.
Back at the house, the scheming began. Sione and Filipe got angry when Kristin didn’t say she’d vote Ron out when she got the chance. Helen suggested Laura vote off her own partner because they’re not family. Kristin then suggested that Tara may fall below the yellow line on purpose, knowing her partner Laura won’t vote her off. Kristin tries to persuade Laura just before the weigh-in by bringing her breakfast in bed, hoping that her deed might save her if she was to fall below the yellow line.
After a last-chance workout, it was time for the weigh-in. Mike went first as he was nine pounds away from setting the all-time record for weight-loss at the ranch (144 pounds). He lost just five. While Ron lost 9 pounds, and Kristin lost 6, the contestants were shocked to see small losses from Tara; she lost three pounds, Helen lost two pounds, and Sione lost four. Tara promised Jillian that she didn’t try to throw the weigh-in to make Laura’s decision easier, but Jillian was angry.
Helen and Sione were below the yellow line, and it was up to Laura to cast the deciding vote. Sione teared up and asked Laura to vote with who she wanted to be there while also slipping in that she could count on him every single week from then on out. Helen told Laura that she and Tara were her closest people, and considered them daughters. Sione, Helen and Laura headed to the elimination room where Laura made her tough decision, a power she regretted winning. She ultimately decided to send Sione home, but instead of wallowing, he was excited to go back to his family, share what he had learned and be a better father and husband.
In the video update Sione had lost a total of 137 pounds, and he had also decided to switch careers from landscaping to being a personal trainer.
