SEVERAL RACERS FOOLISHLY LEAVE THEIR BACKPACKS BEHIND AT A ROADBLOCK, COSTING THEM CRITICAL TIME, AND TEAMS MUST KARAOKE THEIR WAY THROUGH A THAI POP-THEMED DETOUR, ON “THE AMAZING RACE,” APRIL 12

“Rooting Around In People’s Mouths Could Be Unpleasant” (Thailand) – Several Racers leave their backpacks behind at a Roadblock and find themselves shoeless with no passports, and Teams let loose in a Karaoke-themed Detour, on The AMAZING RACE 14, Sunday, April 12 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Last week teams went from Jaipur (Jaipur Airport) to Phuket, Phuket Province, Thailand. The Detour was a choice between 100 Barrels or 2 Miles. In 100 Barrels, teams had to choose one of 6 fishing boats, fill 47 barrels with water, and load 53 on the upper deck. In 2 Miles, teams had to transport a rickshaw (with one team member sitting in it) the said number of miles (3.2 km) to King Rama IX Park to find the next clue. Bike pumps were provided alongside the rickshaws in the event of a flat tire. An unaired Fast Forward involved going to a market and buying items for an orphanage using the team’s own cash resources.

At the start of the leg, teams were given a picture of a gorilla statue, and were left to figure that the statue was located in Phuket Zoo. At Phuket Zoo, teams had to take a picture with Phuket Zoo’s main mascot, Esso the tiger, then participate in an elephant show, which involved being lightly stepped and squatted on by elephants. When the elephant show concluded, the tiger handler would hand them their picture, which contained their next clue. At Nguan Choon Tuan Herbs Shop, teams had to direct a shopkeeper to search through 99 boxes with herbs to find one of six that contained their next clue.

Mel and Mike were the last to arrive at the pit stop and were eliminated from the race.

Mel, a gay rights activist, has worked as a writer, professor, filmmaker and a pastor and is eager to have a once in a lifetime experience with his youngest child.
