For their first challenge, the contestants were split into teams of two and asked to select one personal item which they “cannot live without.” After selecting their items, the teams were told they will be shooting a 30 second video clip for a new “organic lifestyle” company promoting “natural beauty”, and the only item they will be allowed to bring along is the personal item they just selected.
At the challenge, the teams (Julia & Laura, Chelsea & Ray, and Billy & Joel) hiked five miles to a beach where they camped for the night. The next morning, they contestants were awoken at 5 am, and were given video cameras with which to film one another. What the contestants didn’t know is that they were being judge on their teamwork. While most of the contestants passed the challenge, Chelsea appears uninterested in helping Ray, and Joel was argumentative, disobeying a lifeguard’s instructions.
Back at the house Vanessa revealed the results of the challenge. Billy was praised for his performance and won the challenge. Chelsea and Joel were both criticized, placing in the bottom two.
On their way to the “hall of beauty”, Chelsea and Joel were given their final test. A gardener “accidentally” sprayed them in the process of watering some plants. Joel maintained his composure, while Chelsea cursed at the gardener. In the end, Chelsea was eliminated for her attitude towards the other contestants, lack of sympathy during the “action photo shoot” in episode 3, and cursing at the gardener.
