The Biggest Loser Families Finale Recap

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments

The finale began with a recap of the entire season, after which Ali revealed who (between Heba and Ed) would be the third finalist in the competition for $250,000. Despite pleading to America to vote for his wife, it was Ed who won, with 84% of America’s vote. With 16% of the vote, Heba was “eliminated”, which meant that she would be in the competition for the $100,000 prize.

The eliminated contestants were introduced four at a time, starting with Adam & Stacey (Green Team) and LT & Tom (Gray Team). Adam had lost 80 pounds from 340 and Stacey dropped 65 pounds from 221, putting her in the lead. LT dropped 87 pounds from 357, while his father, Tom, shed 78 pounds from 314. Those numbers weren’t enough to put them ahead of Stacey.

Jerry & Colleen (Yellow) and Shellay & Amy C (Purple) were next. Before the weigh-ins continued, Dr. Robert Huizenga had a special announcement for Jerry, saying that since starting the show, his health had a dramatic turn around. He started out on 5 different medications, 3 different life threatening diseases, could barely walk 3 minutes on a treadmill, and had an internal age of 76. He was considered one of the sickest people to step onto the ranch. But since then, he’s gotten off of all his medications, all his diseases disappeared, he was running 5K’s, and he gained back 24 of the 25 years he was ahead of his external age. Huizenga complimented Jerry for his amazing turn around and was joined along with cheers and applaud from the audience and the trainers, Bob and Jillian.

Jerry was next to weigh-in and it was revealed he had dropped 115 pounds from his starting weight of 380 pounds, taking the lead from Stacey. Colleen was next and had shed 64 pounds from 218 pounds. Then it was Shellay who lost 74 pounds from her starting weight from 216, taking the lead from Jerry. But she was quickly overthrown by her daughter, Amy C., who, from 239 pounds, lost 104 pounds, setting a high bar for the other contestants.

Then the last five contestants, Phil, Amy P. (Red), Brady (Brown), Renee (Pink) and Heba (Orange), revealed their new bodies to the world, and the weigh-ins continued. Phil was next, and he had dropped 151 pounds from 331, taking the lead from Amy C. But he was then beaten out by his own wife, Amy P, who shed 105 pounds from 229. Then it was time for Brady to weigh in, and he had shed 117 pounds from 341. Then Renee weighed in and had lost 106 pounds. Heba was last to weigh in, and she had dropped 138 pounds from 294, making her the winner of the $100,000 consolation prize, making her the third female winner in US Biggest Loser history (the first two being Poppi from Season 3, and Ali from last season, who also became the first female biggest loser in the US.

Then it was shown how the final three, Vicky (Brown), Michelle (Pink), and Ed (Orange) coped with the temptations at home. While some were able to resist temptation, others had difficulty staying away, and found it hard to lose weight at home. After that, they showed off their new bodies to the world and explained their struggles. After that, and before the weigh in’s began, they showed a preview of Season 7 of the Biggest Loser.

Then the contestants changed into their original Biggest Loser uniforms. (with the exception of Michelle, who, instead of wearing her original Pink shirt, chose to wear her Black shirt, similar to Ali from season 5 choosing to wear her pink shirt when she returned to the ranch instead of Jillian’s black team shirt) And then the weigh ins commenced, and since Michelle had the highest weight loss percentage of the Final 3, she was allowed to choose the order in which they were weighed. She chose Ed to go first, then Vicky, and then herself last.

Ed was the first to be weighed in, and from his starting weight of 335 pounds, had dropped 139 pounds, giving him a weight loss percentage of 41.49%. Vicky was next, and from her starting weight of 246 pounds, she had shed 101 pounds, 1 pound short of beating Ed, putting her in second place with 41.06%.

It was now down to Michelle. She had to lose more than 100 pounds to win the grand prize from Ed. The scale revealed that she had dropped 110 pounds, enough to beat out Ed and take home $250,000, and more importantly become the 2nd female Biggest Loser in US history.[4]

It should be mentioned that the final results were directly affected by the home vote: Heba had a percentage of 46.37 compared to Michelle’s 45.45. If the vote had gone the way Ed and Heba wanted, Heba would have won the quarter million, and thus Bob would have beaten Jillian for the first time in the main game (The reason being that in season 5, Ali was with Bob for the first four weeks, but she ended up with Jillian for the last five weeks so the win went to both because Ali maintained her pink shirt, but technically, the win was for Jillian). This is also the second time that an eliminated player lost a higher percentage of weight than the winner; the first time was in season 4, when Jim lost 51% compared to his brother Bill’s 49%.
